5 Diverse and Inclusive Menu Must-haves for your Holiday Gatherings

1. INCLUDE EVERYONE

- Send an invitation to everyone - opposing views and all!

- Share your intention to create a fun and loving space. Be sure to state what is NOT on the MENU as topics to avoid.

- Expect declines but create an opportunity to join with a laptop or phone and provide instructions to make it easy to connect.

2. STEER THE CONVERSATION

-Make it fun and keep it light-hearted!

- Post your playful, "NOT ON THE MENU" sign, or "SORRY WE'RE FRESH OUT OF POLITICS!", where all can see.

- Have a punchbowl in the middle of table full of fun questions and names for those who FORGET what is NOT on the menu.

- Create fun questions like, "What was your go-to Zoom outfit - pants or no?"

- Have everyone’s names in the bowl, those attending virtually as well. When a guest draws one, share what they love, like, miss, or admire most about that person.

3. CONNECT GENERATIONS

- Pair different ages and have them use social media with special #'s like: #firstkiss, #favoritesong #bestthanksgivingever then tag, post, and share.

- Create a quiet, well-lit space to video EVERYONE with questions that will keep your family history and this Thanksgiving alive.

- Example questions: What was my dad like when he was my age? When did you come out? What was it like to become a citizen? How did you and mom meet?

Use your imagination to get them talking and then just let people share.

- I highly encourage you to do this. YOU WILL BE THANKFUL FOR THESE MEMORIES.

4. INSPIRE GRATITUDE

- Place a post-it-not on each place setting. Have guests write what they are most thankful for, and something unique or different about themselves.

- Stick the them on a designated wall OR on anther guest's plate to have them read aloud throughout the meal.

5. USE YOUR WORDS

- Say I love you, I appreciate you, and I miss you as often as possible!

- Words matter. Lead by example and fill the day with positive words that will inspire others to do the same.

As with all menu items, "season-to-taste" by adding your own ingredients - a cup of forgiveness, tablespoon of patience, and a dollop of respect.

Whatever you're serving up this holiday season, add these 5 diverse and inclusive menu must-haves to your holiday experiences and make them fun and memorable!
